OIL
IS STILL TACKY AFTER 24 HOURS
Possible Causes are:
• Poor preparation of timber
surface Oil is unable to penetrate the timber’s
surface
• Over application of Oil – either more than
2 coats or 2nd coat not sparingly applied.
• Failure to allow sufficient drying time between
1st and 2nd coats
• Failure to brush or cloth in the final coat or
after recoating
TIMBER SCRATCHES OR MARKS EASILY
This is where the surface of the timber
marks easily once the oil has dried. The finish may be peeling
or lifting.
WHITE MARKS OR “MILKY” LOOK
This is where
the Timber surface shows up white, or has “crazing”
or “crocodile skin” type markings. Possible
causes are:
• Timber
has become exposed to moisture prior to drying –
Oil applied with insufficient drying time prior to evening
dew/moisture or rain.
• Insufficient drying time allowed after “wash-down
(2 to 3 days)”. The moisture is still leaving the
timber, causing emulsification.
DULL OR PATCHY AREAS
Possible causes are:
• Poor preparation of timber
surface
• Insufficient drying time allowed after “wash-down
(2 to 3 days)”. The moisture is still leaving the
timber, causing emulsification.
RECTIFICATION PROCEDURE
Within 48 hours of application,
apply a coat of Ecowoodoil, leave for 15 to 30 minutes.
Then rub the problem areas firmly with a “Scotchbrite”
type scouring pad. (For large areas a Polivac or Canterbury
polishing machine fitted with a scouring pad can be used).
Then rub the surface with a lint-free cloth so that there
is no wet oil left on the timber’s surface. If longer
than 48 hours after the application of Ecowoodoil, using
a steam cleaner or sanding may be necessary. |
